Poll Worker Volunteer Opportunity: Polling Place Exhibit

Poll Worker Volunteer Opportunity: Polling Place Exhibit

Description

Every October the Board for People with Developmental Disabilities hosts the Self Determination Conference which endeavors to empower Self-Advocacy and Self-Direction for people with developmental disabilities and the people who support them. It’s a really fun event and is Wisconsin’s biggest event for people with disabilities (over 800 people attended in 2023).

This year, the Wisconsin Elections Commission and the Disability Vote Coalition will have a Polling Place exhibit where conference attendees can practice going through all the steps of voting in person on Election Day. There will be stations set up to practice everything from signing the poll book, showing photo ID to get a ballot, and using accessible voting equipment. In order to make this exhibit a success, we will need 8 poll workers throughout the day to man the poll book and issue ballots. This event is two weeks before Election Day, so it's great practice to make sure you're ready for November. However, the focus of this event is on the voters, so poll workers will need to be self-sufficient and already know how to complete the task at the station they sign up for.
