Polling Place Review Checklist
- Do not park your car in the spots closest to the building entrance.
- Have your WI Driver License ready and gather your tools.
- Go inside to the voting area, ask for the chief inspector, introduce yourself.
- You can show them your Driver’s License if they ask for ID.
- Inform the chief inspector why you are there and hand them the letter of introduction from the Administrator, Meagan Wolfe.
- Example: “I am with the Wisconsin Elections Commission. We are conducting onsite accessibility compliance reviews. I will be at your polling place for approximately 45 minutes. I will be taking several measurements both inside and outside your polling place and will be as unobtrusive as possible. I am starting outside and going through the parking lot, accessible routes, accessible entrance, interior routes, and the voting area. If at any time you have questions about my review, please let me know. If you would like clarification from the Wisconsin Elections Commission, please feel free to call directly using the information on the sheet I provided you with.”
- You are not considered an “observer” of the elections and should not register as one even if the chief inspector request that you do.
- If they have any questions about Election Day activities, direct them to call (608)261-2028.
- Find the survey for the proper polling place (they may be out of order on the tablet). Complete the survey and return to the voting area.
- When you have completed your review, thank the chief inspector for their time and cooperation. Let the chief inspector know that the WEC will follow up with the review results to the municipal clerk.
- When you return to your car, make sure the survey is complete. Do not depend on your memory to fill in missing answers at a later time. You can use this time to sort your photos into the proper folder or make any additional notes.
- Take an inventory of your tools to ensure you have all of the pieces.
- Find directions to the next polling place and depart.
